It seems that obstacles are always placed in my way to hinder me from being at the YCDI Workshops! But… NOT TODAY SATAN! I was 30 minutes late but that was not going to stop me from showing up and consuming all the information I could. If you have been keeping tabs on my blog posts on our workshops then you know how the day actually started. Before we could go inside we had to again answer a question on our famous sticky notes. “What is your super power?” I had to think long and hard about this one (well no surprise there). I then wrote down my superpower to be my ability to communicate well with others, I wasn’t sure at first if that was even logical but by the end of the workshop I was 110% confident and sure that it was.

The Empower YOUth Session was all about using our strengths to (as the name suggests) empower us girls. Before beginning we watched a video of one of the organizers of the programme, Paula. She spoke on the importance of our strengths and what stuck with me was when she said

Focus on your strengths instead of your weaknesses… Take it all in

It was communicated to us that we can’t be anything we want to be – however we can be a lot more of who we already are. Lianne went as far as to define ‘strengths’ and ‘talents’ to us; strengths being the ability to consistently have a nearly perfect outcome in a specific task while talent is the way in which we most naturally think ,feel and behave. I had already taken the strengths finder test a year ago but somehow yesterday I had a sense of understanding what it all meant just a tad bit more. I can see how what I learned about myself through the Strengths Insight and Action-Planning Guide really is true and I see it play out every single day. The entire workshop motivated me to really sit and think about me – now that I’ve learned about my strengths where does my weakness lie, why do I do the things I do? Whats my philosophy?

I have a better understanding of who Isheba Afiya Cornwall is and I have Lianne to thank for that. Stay tuned for another blog post on my TOP 5 STRENGHTS.
